Le Mans Series - 1000km of Spa
Markus will race in this weekend's Le Mans Series round in
Spa-Francorchamps with a Porsche GT3-RSR ran by his last year's FIA GT
team, ProSpeed Competition. The car is the same that Markus raced last
year for JWA together with Paul Daniels and Tim Sugden. This time
Markus and Paul will share the driving duties of the Dunlop-shod
Porsche without the help of a 3rd driver.
"It's very nice to be back in
the Le Mans Series again this year and it's good to race again with
Paul. I've been in LMS since 2005 and it's a great championship always
offering exciting races. We're again racing with Paul's RSR like in
2008, but this time around it's ProSpeed that will run it. The car is a
2007-model with most of the 2008 upgrades and we will be on Dunlop,
which is interesting. We haven't done any testing and actually the car
hasn't been on track since last year's Silverstone finale, so I'm not
expecting to be close to the top guys pace-wise. However, we will
benefit from ProSpeed's experience with the RSR and knowledge of Spa
and we should keep in mind that LMS is mostly about being consistent
and getting the strategy right.
We were
talking with a couple of good drivers, but in the end decided to do it
only with the two of us. I think it's a good idea considering that
there are only two practice sessions and we surely need to work on the
car, study the tyre options and get back to the rhythm with everything.
The deal is only for this one race, but there is serious interest for
doing the balance of the season. I did most of the championship with
this car last season and we scored points each time, so it would be
good to keep that up. GT2 class is really competitive this year and I'm looking forward to 6 hours of tough racing!"
