Le Mans Series - 1000km of Spa
Markus finished 9th in LMGT2 class in the Le Mans Series round at Spa last weekend, barely missing out scoring championship points. After qualifying 10th on Saturday, Markus and his teammate Paul Daniels had a fairly incident-free run through the 6 hours with the Porsche 911 GT3-RSR ran by Belgian outfit ProSpeed Competition.
"It was actually a bit like Silverstone the week before. We did a very good race, pushing hard and had no major dramas to slow us down, but were not able to climb any further up the ranks. It was a bit expected, though, since our preparation was minimal and we didn't have time to work much on the car, which to be honest, is a bit out-of-date. Also, the rubber Dunlop delivered was new to us and I was surprised how hard they were. All this meant that we were far away in the qualifying, but on the other hand we were able to do double-stints in the race, unlike many of our competitors and actually our pace was pretty decent towards the end of the stints and I had some fun with some of the opposition.
It was Paul's first time in the car since last September and we lost some track time in the practice, which didn't help. The first free practice was mostly wet and warm-up was cancelled, so all Paul had done before jumping in the car was a sole 30min run in the 2nd practice. It might’ve been the strongest performance I've seen from Paul so far. With so little practice, he did a full double-stint or actually over 2,5 hours with the same set of tyres and improved his time from practice by 2 seconds!
It's always great to race in Spa and it certainly was worth being there this time again and I hope there will be more to follow later on this season. LMS is on break now for over 2 months, so there is time to put something together for the remaining races."
