Nordic GT3 -Ahvenisto report
Markus had a successful return to Scandinavian racing scoring pole position and a win in the first weekend of the Nordic GT3 Championship at Ahvenisto, Finland. Markus raced with Petri Mannila in an ex-ProSpeed Porsche GT3 Cup S currently ran by a Finnish team No Brakes Motorsport. Mannila qualified 4th for the 2nd race, but had to retire in the early stages from 2nd position.
"We’ve had a very good start for this season in Nordic GT3. The
pre-season tests have been very positive and it all came together in
the first race when we got the pole position and won the first event of
the season. It was a good race. I kept the 1st position in the start
and was able to build a comfortable lead while saving tyres for Petri’s
last stint. He did a great job defending the position against the
Lamborghini of GTM and we crossed the line first and scored maximum
points.
I was confident that we could repeat our Saturday result in Race 2 and
it looked very good when Petri got from 5th to 2nd during his first
stint after a good battle with the other guys. Unfortunately, we had a
bit too fierce fight with our teammates and actually 3 of the 4 No
Brakes Motorsport cars collided with each other. We were the ones
paying the highest price and Petri had to park the car just 1 lap
before I was meant to jump in. It was good racing and we gave it our
best shot, but of course I’m disappointed for scoring no points at all
in the 2nd race. Still, the Nordic GT3 proved to be a tough series with several cars able to challenge for the win. We will be back at Alastaro!"
